A painting, Reclining Nude ( Nu Couche ), by Amedeo Modigliani has gone under hammer to a Chinese buyer for £113m (US $170.4m).
This was sold at Christie’s in New York on Monday after bidding battle. It was the second-highest price ever for a work of art at auction.
‘Women of Algiers’ (Version O), painting of Pablo Picasso still hold the record for the highest sum ever paid for an artwork at auction. It sold for $179.4m at Christie’s in May.
The portrait by the Italian painter and sculptor was the first time had gone under the hammer in 1917-18. The previous auction record was $71m.
Auction house Christie’s said the painting was bought by private Chinese collectors ( billionaire investor ) Liu Yiqian and his wife, Wang Wei.
