Sylhet Super Stars Crash out of BPL

Sylhet Super Stars knocked out of Bangladesh Premier League

Dhaka: An all round performance came from Comilla Victorians steered them to earn 71 runs victory over Sylhet Super Stars in the Bangladesh Premier League held on Thursday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur, Dhaka.

This defeat means Sylhet Super Stars made exit from the championship race and allowed Dhaka Dynamites to enter the last four of the competition.

Chasing a winning target of 151 runs set by Comilla Victorians, Sylhet Super Stars found the chase very stiff losing wickets in regular intervals and finally dismissed at a paltry total of 79 in 13.5 overs.

English batsman Josh Cobb top scored with 21 runs followed by Mamunul Haque 15 n.o.

Shuvagata Hom was the pick of Victorians bowlers taking three wickets for 8 runs. He was well supported by Ashar Zaidi and Andre Russell who both captured two wickets each conceding 4 and 9 runs respectively.

Ahmed Shehzad of Comilla Victorians was named the player of the match for his impressive bowling performance.

Earlier, a late blaze by Alok Kapali and Ashar Zaidi helped Comilla Victorians to set up a competitive total of 150 for 4 from their allotted 20 overs against Sylhet Super Stars.

Opener Liton Das was the first Victorians batsman to go for 4 runs giving a back catch to Mushfiqur Rahim off Mohammad Shahid delivery, after they were forced to bat first by Sylhet Super Stars skipper Mushfiqur Rahim.

However 68 runs second wicket stand between opener Imrul Kayes first down Ahmed Shehzad gave Victorians some recovery of their early wicket of Liton.

The Pakistani recruit Shehzad, who was looking comfortable with bat on the crease, contributed 42 runs off 31 balls with the help of five boundaries and one over boundary before he was trapped leg before wicket of a superb delivery by pacer Rubel Hossain.

Opener Imrul Kayes gave a return catch to Shahid Afridi. He scored 27 runs off 28 balls with two boundaries and one over boundary.

Later Alok Kapali (32 n.o) and Ashar Zaidi (31) played a blistering knock that helped Victorians to reach 150 runs land mark. Kapali smashed two over boundaries and one boundary during his 26 balls stay on the crease while

Zaidi hammered two fours and a big sixer facing 29 balls.

M Shahid, Shahid Afridi, and Rubel Hossain took one wicket each conceding 18, 201 and 30 runs respectively.
