STORM DESMOND: Pensioner killed and 59,000 without power as winds and floods wreak havoc

AN ELDERLY man was killed after being blown into the side of a moving bus by severe winds caused by Storm Desmond which has left homes flooded and 59,000 people without power.

The 90-year-old was walking along a pavement in Finchley, north London, when he was caught by a gust of wind and blown off the walkway into the side of a moving bus, police said.

A Met Police spokeswoman said: “Police are investigating the death of man who they believe was blown by a gust of wind against the side of a moving bus.

“Police were called by London Ambulance Service at 12:35hrs on Saturday, 5 December, to reports of a collision between a bus and a man at Chaville Way N3, near to Finchley Central station
