Bangladesh’s one-day international skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza believes star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan should take the helm of the squad in future.
“I always wanted Shakib to be the squad leader. Though I am leading the team now, I want to see Shakib lead Bangladesh in future,” said Mashrafe.
“I want Shakib as Bangladesh skipper not because he is the best performer but because our team members respect him a lot,” he added.
Mashrafe has come up with the remarks in an interview with Prothom Alo on Sunday.
Mashrafe and Shakib, both the Tigers have a tete-a-tete together with Prothom Alo.
Mashrafe kept on saying, “Shakib led the team in a very hard time. Bangladesh won some matches during his captaincy, though.”
“I believe it would be a loss for Bangladesh team if Shakib does not lead the team for a long period. He should give it a thought if the cricket board decides to make him the captain,” he added.
What does Shakib have to say about this remark?
“I do not want to say anything about it,” said Shakib smiling.
Both of them agreed that bowler Mustafizur Rahman is a real gem.
“Malinga and Mustafiz stand out among all the fast bowlers. I have not seen their uniqueness in others bowlers,’ said Shakib.
Mashrafe said the harmony of the cricketers of Bangladesh squad is a unique example.
“The problem is that we cannot execute our plans on the field. The day we will start defeating giants like India and Australia without effortlessly, we would say that we are indeed an example (for others),” said Mashrafe.
