Mayte Garcia says she’s ‘beyond deeply saddened and devastated’ over Prince’s sudden passing, and Manuela Testolini admits she’s ‘not okay.’
Prince’s ex-wives Mayte Garcia and Manuela Testolini are among those mourning the death of the music icon. Speaking to different news outlets, the two women who became important parts in his life open up about how they feel after learning of the sad news.
“I can’t even think of the words of what I’m feeling,” Mayte, who was married to Prince from 1996-1999, tells PEOPLE. She continues in a statement through her manager, “This man was my everything, we had a family. I am beyond deeply saddened and devastated.”
Mayte and Prince had a son named Boy Gregory who was born on October 16, 1996, but he died a week later. “I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally,” she adds. “He’s with our son now.”
Mayte’s mother Nelly Garcia also tells Radar Online, “It’s sad we have lost him.”
Prince’s second wife Manuela is equally sad. “I’m not okay,” she simply says to Radar. Manuela was married to the “Purple Rain” singer from 1996-2000. She’s now married to singer Eric Benet.
Prince was found unresponsive in the elevator of his Paisley Park Studios apartment in Chanhassen, Minnesota on Thursday morning, April 21. The cause of death is still unknown as police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. President Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Mariah Carey and Madonna were among some public figures who have paid tribute to the late singer. To commemorate the late singer, some cities lit their iconic buildings, such as San Francisco’s city hall building, Cleveland’s Terminal Tower and Paris’ Eiffel Tower, in purple lights.
