Leonardo Dicaprio’s 95K Expedition

Leonardo DiCaprio has paid $95,000 to go on an expedition with an explorer in Mongolia.

The 41-year-old actor – who won a BAFTA on Sunday (14.02.16) for his portrayal of fur trapper Hugh Glass in ‘The Revenant’ – is set to test his wilderness skills in a real-life setting when he embarks on the 10-day journey to Lake Hovsgol.

Swedish explorer Johan Ernst Nilson, who will lead the expedition, told the New York Post: “When I do these trips. I take people out of their comfort zone in terms of the inner journey and get them doing things they normally wouldn’t do. If you push your limits, the reward will be much higher. It’s going to be amazing.”

Leonardo will leave the trappings of Hollywood behind as he sleeps in a yurt and goes hunting with falcons, although he will be accompanied by a chef on the trip.

Leonardo has previously spoken of the tough conditions he endured while shooting the film.

He said: “It was quite possibly the most difficult professional undertaking that I’ve ever had, and I think I can say the same for everyone that was involved in the movie.

He added that filming went on for months and months on the “rough shoot” because, shooting in natural light, they would have to wait until the next day if things went wrong.
