Katy Perry has just released a brand new song called “Rise” for the 2016 Rio Olympics. The song, which is Katy’s first new music since her double platinum album “Prism” in 2013, will serve as the soundtrack of NBC’s coverage of the upcoming Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“TOGETHER WE #RISE,” Katy tweets alongside a snippet of “Rise”, which is available exclusively to stream on Apple Music and to download on iTunes. “When, when the fire’s at my feet again/ And the vultures all start circling/ They’re whispering, ‘you’re out of time’/ But still I rise,” the “Roar” hitmaker sings.

“Rise” is the first single off of Katy’s upcoming fourth studio album. She says in a statement, “This is a song that’s been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface. I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite.”
“I know that together we can rise above the fear – in our country, and around the world,” she continues, “I can’t think of a better example than the Olympic athletes, as they gather in Rio with their strength and fearlessness, to remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be. I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together. I am honored that NBC Olympics has chosen to use it as an anthem before and during the Rio Games.”
In other news, Katy is reportedly readying a diss track for Taylor Swift after Calvin Harris dragged the “Teenage Dream” singer in a rant against the “Shake It Off” hitmaker. Katy has thrown shade at Taylor on Twitter.
“The word is she’s written a song about Taylor and is still debating putting it on her album,” a source tells HollywoodLife.com, “Having Calvin on her side like this way may be the push she needs to get put it on there. Katy can’t help but feel vindicated by this, she’s glad Calvin is finally shining the light on exactly who Taylor is.”
