Jamaat’s 24-hr hartal

The countrywide day-long hartal for Thursday enforced by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is underway peacefully.

Jamaat called the hartal protesting the death sentence awarded to its one of the top leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed for war crimes during the 1971 Liberation War.

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in the capital city as well as different parts of the country since Tuesday evening.

They were seen patrolling in different strategic points of the capital city along with the members of other law enforcement agencies.

No procession or picketing was seen in support of the hartal in the capital city. Movement of vehicles was almost normal on the capital streets.

On Wednesday, Jamaat-e-Islami called a countrywide day-long hartal for Thursday, protesting the Supreme Court verdict that upheld the death penalty to its secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed for war crimes during the 1971 Liberation War.
