Charlize Theron is “incredibly lucky” her mum looks after her kids so much.
The 40-year-old actress is mother to four-year-old son Jackson and eight-month-old daughter August, and admits she feels very fortunate that her own parent Gerda takes on the role of a “full-time grandmother”.
She said: “I’m a single mum. I’m incredibly lucky my mother is a full-time grandmother.”
When the ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ star is not looking after her kids, she is appearing in huge Hollywood blockbusters, and admits she particularly enjoyed portraying Imperator Furiosa in the in the post-apocalyptic action film because her alter-ego felt “real”.
She added: “I love wearing the skin of a real woman in a real story in a real moment, whether it’s pretty or ugly or sad or broken.”
While Charlize admits her looks may have opened doors early in her career, she insists “meaty roles” aren’t usually played by “pretty people”.
She told Britain’s GQ magazine: “Jobs with real gravitas go to people that are physically right for them and that’s the end of the story.
“How many roles are out there for the gorgeous, f***ing, gown-wearing eight-foot model? When meaty roles come through, I’ve been in the room and pretty people get turned away first.”
