The singer made an introduction to her new songs and their accompanying music videos with the help of Jay-Z, The Weeknd and Serena Williams among others.
The mysterious “Lemonade” project that Beyonce Knowles teased on an HBO trailer turns out to be a compilation of new songs and music videos from her new album. Fans were treated with her new music from the new album “Lemonade” on Saturday, April 23 evening.
Beyonce began with an R ‘n’ B jam “Intuition” and followed it up with “Denial”. While swinging her baseball bat to anyone and anything, she sang, “Hold up, they don’t love you like I love you. Slow down, they don’t love you like I love you.” That would be for the track aptly titled “Anger”.
A haunting music video was introduced for “Apathy”. Bey said, “So what are you gonna say at my funeral now that you’ve killed me?” Then there’s The Weeknd-featuring track titled “Emptiness” which presented Serena Williams in the music video. “Stacking money, money, money everywhere she goes,” The Weeknd sang his line.
“Accountability” was next, telling the story about a little girl who wanted to be like her mother but couldn’t. There’s a grainy old footage of her and dad Matthew Knowles. Bey continued with “Reformation” in which she laid on a giant football stadium. Jay-Z appeared in “Forgiveness”, kissing and caressing the leading lady.
“Resurrection” was about the kids and their purpose for the future. Among the women holding photos of young men were the mothers of shot victims Trayvon Martin and Mike Brown. The HBO special ended with the upbeat “Hope”.
Bey released the sixth studio album on Tidal shortly after the album film aired on HBO. Other tracks not featured in the special were “Sorry”, “Don’t Hurt Yourself” and “Sandcastles”. Besides The Weeknd, collaborations also came from Kendrick Lamar, James Blake and Jack White. Her Formation World Tour kicks off Wednesday, April 27 in Miami with DJ Khaled as opening act.
