Alastair Cook to rejoin England squad in Bangladesh

England captain Alastair Cook will link with up with the England squad in Bangladesh on Monday after attending the birth of his second child.

Cook was always expected to rejoin the team ahead of the first Test, which gets underway in Chittagong on Thursday, and will now do so after his wife gave birth to a baby girl, reports Sky Sports.

Cook has missed both of England’s practice matches but came out to Bangladesh earlier in the tour during his side’s ODI series win to acclimatise.

The 31-year-old has a superb record in Asia, having hit eight hundreds at an average above 60, with his first ton coming on his Test debut in India 10 years ago following a last-minute dash there from the Caribbean.

England fast bowler Steven Finn believes that experience means the skipper will have few problems settling back in.

“I think you’d be a bit worried if it was someone who was less experienced, I suppose, and hadn’t experienced these conditions before and spent time in the middle because that’s important,” he said.

“The amount of cricket that Cooky’s played in the subcontinent, I think he’ll fit back in seamlessly.”
